What an edu Google account is, and what it is not
These are Google accounts on a school or education-style domain. Most of them work for a set time, from a few hours to about a month, and that time is in the listing title. Read both lists before you buy.
You get
- A Google account on an .edu or similar domain, signed in with the delivered email and password
- Google sign-in, Drive and the other Google apps the domain allows
- A Gmail inbox on listings that say with Gmail
- Access for the period in the title, such as 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days
- A backup email on listings that include one
You do not get
- Student status: you are not enrolled anywhere, and offers that check enrolment can refuse the account
- A @gmail.com address
- An account for keeps: when the period ends, the domain owner can remove it
- A way to recover the account or its files after it is removed
- An inbox on listings that say no Gmail or not gmail.com
Using it inside its period
The period runs whether you use the account or not, so plan the order around the moment you need it.
Buy when you need it
Order when you are ready to use the account. A 24-hour account bought the night before has fewer useful hours.
Sign in right away
Log in with the delivered details and check that the apps you need open. If the first login fails, open a ticket from your order page.
Do the main task first
Sign up for the service or finish the work you bought it for before anything else.
Keep nothing you need later
Copy out any file or message you want to keep before the period ends.
Reading the listing title
The words in a title are what separates one edu listing from another. "With Gmail" means the account has the Gmail inbox. "No Gmail" or "not gmail.com" means a Google account on the domain without that inbox, often enough for Google sign-in and Drive.
"Domain rental" listings are Google accounts on a domain such as .us or .tokyo, rented for the hours in the title. "Old administrator" listings are older accounts on an older domain, and they cost more.
First login only
A replacement covers an account that fails at first login with the details as delivered, within the window on the listing. An account that reaches the end of its period is not a fault.
